The town of Tivissa, with a medieval character, still preserves its walled appearance with narrow and winding streets that allow the visitor to take a tour of its history.
Tivissa Town & History
There are no explicit remains of what were the walls of Tivissa, but these, together with the entrance portals to the fortified enclosure, are considered Cultural Assets of National Interest (BCIN) in the category of historical monument.
Plaça de la Baranova is the most representative space in the town, located next to the church.
It is the largest square in the town, a privileged vantage point for the districts of Ribera d'Ebre, Terra Alta and Priorat, where you can see the mountains of Prades, the Serra del Montsant, passing through Pàndols and Cavalls, the Ports and the Cardó mountain range.
Until the middle of the 19th century, the square was occupied by the parish cemetery.
