In the north-east of Catalonia, halfway between Vic and Olot, there is Rupit, a jewel in the middle of the Collsacabra. When we arrive at the town, one of the things that attracts the most attention, apart from the beauty of its constructions and its incomparable environment, is a wall that rises on a large rock that dominates the town.
Rupit Town & History
It seems that the rock is the origin of the name of Rupit, since in Latin rupes means rock and it is where the old castle was (10th century).
Behind the rocky cliff where the remains of the castle are located, Rupit maintains its baroque past, which turns it into a charming town: cobbled streets, rustic houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, the peculiar wooden suspension bridge, the 'baroque church of Sant Miquel, etc.
The village is surrounded by the Rupit stream, lush forests, balms, prehistoric tombs and waterfalls where you can breathe the silence and calm of nature.
A few kilometers from Rupit, at an altitude of 950 meters, is Pruit, where the church of Sant Andreu presides over a small cluster of houses and a good flock of farm houses, some of them of great beauty.
Rupit, land of good cuisine. In the middle of Collsacabra you can taste the artisanal products provided by the area's farmers and prepared by local restaurants. Rupit's cuisine is characterized by a varied, homemade and mountain cuisine.
